Hi Barbara
I think I must have looked at every instance of Ernest, b. circa 1887 in Middlesex/London - nothing at all that matches anything that I've picked up from this thread. My eyes are now going pear-shaped
My last idea would be to check out the local workhouses/charity schools. If he was the son of Louisa, then he would have been of humble-ish origin. The story about running away from school, etc. might have been an attempt to cover it up.
I'll still keep thinking but

Here's a web hint, Barbara... go back into some of your replies this thread and hit modify...then add the forename & surname of the person you are talking about...within that reply...( some in reverse as I've done above...) Search engines will then have it many times should there be anyone searching. and you'll come up first for those names ( I hope) all the best, J.J.

Ummmm
Well I didn't like to say it quite so frankly Barbara but I was thinking that. Still, I reckon you must have the correct mother - unless he dreamed the name up as well and I don't think he did As I said, I've got one illegitimate line amongst my grandparents so I'll only know 7/8 ths of my family history. It doesn't really bother me. The rest are just as fascinating. I still wonder though

Have been reading this thread because of your post on the thread "which of your ancestors have disappeared".
Not much help I am afraid but you said you hadn't found Louisa on the 1871; well Louisa and her family are transcribed as Olney and the reference is RG10/388 Folio 4, page 21.
Have you looked at Louisa's siblings and their families, to see if Ernest is with them in 1891?
Regards, Kath

Hi Barbara,
Did wonder if that was your Louisa that married Charles Barnett She certainly got married late in life. Did you get that marriage cert, just wondered what address Louisa was residing at.
I am glad you found Louisa, as I have been trying to find her and her brother Walter in 1901, they were hiding from me, but as you have her, I will stop now
Regards, Kath

I've been looking on and off for Ernest since before I'd reached 1000 postings

Hi everyone, Just came across this thread, and thought I'd read through to try and help solve my own brickwalls. Just wondered, Carol - how did you crack it in the end - you never said? Presume it must have been on somethng like GR or something similar. I'd be interested to know, Carol. Good luck, Barbara - hope you solve it Paulene
