I think they're hanging out with my Margaret's paramour and her elder brother William
I've done a good tour around the London ones

Hey, never give up, you lot - Barbara, Trish! I haven't given up on Edward Martin or Eleanor Bentley, despite having exhausted all obvious possibilities. I will keep looking for them until I have the chance to tell them what I think of them in person!!

Hi Charlotte...........I've written quite a number of different things by the side of Ernests name......some printable and some not!! But haven't got round to writing 'closed' yet.........but it's close Barbara, Hi again, As for the unprintable things that stand against some names in the files of most of us ... well that's a whole new topic.
But, don't write anyone off.. you never know what SKS may come up with.. says me with my fingers crossed about the West Yks Archives search.

I agree with MarieC, never give up, put your problems on a back burner for a while and work on someone else, then try again, you never know when something will turn up.
I had a man who seemed to dissapeared into thin air, I spent twenty years searching for him, then last month Ancestry published the Drouin Collection, and bingo, I found him.

I usually write "can't find anything more on this person" or whatever you can't find, and add the date.
I'm going through all my mother's family at the moment. It is taking some time, estimate a year. When I have done that I will go on to my fathers family, another year or so. Then back to my mother's again. And then back to .............

Charlotte,
There's a thread on here about the Drouin collection where it is explained very well - I think it's on Census and Resource Discussion. It seems to be French Canadian records - sadly, of no use to me.
Trish and Barbara, see, Jebber's story proves that you should never give up! No, my two just simply disappeared into thin air, but I continue to search. One of these days I will turn over a rock, and bingo! there they will be!

Trish251 it is a stretch but with the new site that Christopher has put up today:
https://brsgenealogy.com/ifhf/index.php?&set=yes
It may be possible if you were to try all the variations that your ancestor gave you re birth date, place of residence, name changes etc. after many years of slaving over all the possibilities you may just find him on here.

A quick search found 3 marriages and 1 death - as he married (quite young) & died in Australia, I don't think he is there - but I will have a longer look later - I did read a couple of posts about this site but seemed to skip over them - I fear I am stuck in the "too hard" box
