How Long Before You Call It Quits??

I've been searching for a persons father for what seems like half a lifetime ( it isn't really, it just seems that way )with no luck whatsoever. 

I've even made use of a professional genealogist (who I really couldn't afford, but did it anyway!!) in UK to try and find him with no luck.

I'm just wondering how long do you keep looking for somebody before you say enough!!           Undecided

Never - something will eventualy come up.  Keep the faith!  With more and more people getting into this fab hobby of ours, someones bound to have some info about him somewhere.

That's all i did - put the family in the background though no too far away and wait.

After 2 years of searching I eventually put them in the background and just this week up they popped!

Now I have at least 50 new people to add so that should keep me busy for a while

Never think they aren't out there - as I did - there is always someone out there who has that link that you need.

When the time is right it will show itself to you

Thanks for the boost, it's good to know others have gone through the same thing and come out the other side with results          Smiley

I was about to give up and forget about him - which actually infuriates me as I know he must be out there somewhere - but perhaps just putting him away for a while will do.  It's just sooooooooooo maddening when even a professional gives up!!

I was looking for my 3x great grandmother death for over 15 years. I found it now and its a Wonderful feeling, but you will know that  Wink
Never give up, put it on the back burner for a while, and come back later.

If I get stuck I just leave it for a while and go back after a break. Wont give up on some ancestors until I actually go and join them. They wont be able to hide then! Grin

I think everyone has the usual brick wall - or just the unknown person. Leave them for a while (as everyone else said) - they will be back when you least except it!

I think we should have a thread on RC called :-

    Our Brickwalls

We can all list our most frustrating ancestor and when someone else is bored not busy, they can see what they can find. A new approach often works wonders.

I'm looking for my Grandfathers father who's not on his birth cert or his marriage cert.    All the usual places have been searched and we've come up with nothing.

Frustrating isn't exactly the right word . . . . .  think of something a little stronger and you will probably be close   Wink
