BAIN FAMILY
« on: Tuesday 03 February 04 01:24 UTC (UK) »

HELEN BAIN / BANN born about 1808 Tarbolton, Ayrshire.

She  married  JOHN KENNEDY  born abt 1804

They were the parents of Sarah Kennedy [born abt. 1836 Llandward, New Monkland.

I've hit the proverbial brick wall in trying to find ANY data on Helen Bain and would really appreciate some help.

Thanks

Brenda

Hi Brenda

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi Rob,

Many thanks for the info. but I don't think the family in the 1861 census are mine. The 1851 one looks promising though.

I found the banns for her marriage to John Kennedy [1828 @ Girvan ] so I'm presuming she was born there?
So I'm still looking.
Thanks again

Hi Brenda

As I'm sure you have checked, there is no death showing for Helen after 1855 and the start of official registration (with wildcards). I wonder if Sarah Kennedy's marriage in 1856 shows mother Helen as deceased?

Regards.

Brenda

There is a possible entry for the family in Dunbarton for the 1841 Census (youngest daughter Rebecca in the 1851 Census posted by Rob shows as born in Cumbernauld Dunbarton):

John, 45, lab. b. Ireland
Ellen, 30, b. Ireland (?)
Alex, 20, lab.
John, 10
Ellen, 8
Robert, 6
Sarah, 4
Sner (?), 2

Address: South Side Of Main Street, Cumbernauld

Everyone showing as born outside the county, except parents with an Ireland birth place.

Regards.

Hi Monica

Thanks for replying to my query.

Helen was alive when her daughter, Sarah, married James McLean Oct 17th 1856 @Wattstown.
States her father John Kennedy was a field labourer.

I have the OPR record showing John Kennedy & Helen  were married July 12th 1828 @ Girvan, but this doesn't show their ages. Sad

Another OPR shows baptisms for Martha & Helen Kenendy, daughters of John Kenendy & Helen Bann? [Helen born 24-7-1833 @ Ladykirk Bridge???, no birth date for Martha, [ they were both babtised 16-04-1833 @ Tarbolton.]

Thanks again
