UPDATE

I posted details of the Meet on the Genforum Events board as well as Australian and Canadian boards.
I've just received a message from an  interested party in Australia.

I have just read your thread & would be interested in the Belfast meet.  It would be good to meet up with other RootChatters with an interest in the North.

Hiya Mark,

Thanks for your message.

May I put your name on the list as a provisional? That would start the ball rolling? Watch the Belfast event closely though as I'm having a discussion with a Scottish member at the moment which may result in a trial run for a much larger event a few years from now.

Best Wishes, Chris

UPDATE

This event will take place in June 2007.

Would those attending or interested in attending but have not yet added their names to the list like another poll to decide which weekend to hold the event or should we go for the last weekend in June.

Could a few of the Irish members come up with suggestions for a few events please? So far in that respect I've a speaker willing to give us a talk ... we may have to pay her but I received a surprise email yesterday so there's now another event on the programme .. a trio of musicians. I met a lady at a dinner in Dublin on Saturday. I told her about our Meet. Yesterday when I came home there was an email waiting from this lady ... here's part of her message ..."... June 2007 sounds great.. my sister, brother and I sing....would be happy to do a gig for you in June!! :-) " Another email arrived from her this morning ... "I play the guitar - no payment!!!! :-) Jenny X "

hi all,
I thought this link might be of interest to the more energetic
rootschatters visiting dublin.but I have to say christopher if the weather
in june is as hot as last year then your idea of a talk in the open air
might  just be the way to go.

Chris,

Part of me says yeah lets do it, the other half remembers reading a previous post about the prospect of meeting people who know so much more and being frightening. I understand we all started somewhere, but its not helped by the fact that I am hard up against a wall on my paternal line and feeling useless.

I understand it is to be June, have you been able to pin down the date yet (work and choral commitments have to be balanced with leisure)? I'm in Bristol, so making the journey over is not so problematic.

Have you a draft "Order Of The Day" it will be a delicate process to balance the desire to do some hard graft searching, have a discussion and gain an understanding of new lines of enquiry and the social time. Good luck to you my friend.

A thought for a speaker:
One visit to Dublin a few years ago I was in the City Reference Library on Pearse Street. Collectively the staff could not have been more helpful. They certainly used their knowledge of their collection to help find a way through to an answer producing relevant documents I hadn't requested. Might they be approached for a talk/tour?

Regards

Hiya Canuc,

Thanks for your post.

The Meet is being held on 22nd - 24th June.

There are three threads about it at the moment. They're pinned on the Ireland - General board.

Thanks Sharon.

I wonder if anyone knows of a hall in Dublin where we could gather for a few hours on either Friday or Saturday evening. It's somewhat difficult trying to organise everything when one is a hundred miles away. Are there no Dublin RootsChatters willing to assist? I'm surprised that there's not more enthusiasm for this event from members in Dublin considering this may be quite a large event.
