West Family of Fivehead and Curry Rivel

[ ???color=Teal][/color] I am researching my ancestors who came from Fivehead and Curry Rivel in Somerset.    My great-grandfather was John West who was born in Fivehead or Swell in Dec 1828, his father was William and his mother Mary.  Did any subsequent West's stay in this area as there were various grandaughters and sons, Emily, Mabel Harriet, William Fred (who died in WW1) who was my grandfather, Florence Laura and Arthur Charles.    I believe the two girls were domestic servants in Curry Rivel in 1901.   Any information gratefully received.  Many thanks.

No luck with the rest of family though there is a 14 year old servant Florence in Curry Rivel but she claims birth in Cury Rivel. In 1891 we have Mary H B b Bristol in 1901 there is a Beatrice Mary b Bristol an 18 year old  Huh servant in Cleveden ....mayb the others r in a county that I do not have information for ..couldnt find your grandfather.

Nooshie, I am descended from James West of this family, I would be very interested in speaking with you further, I have been looking for 12 years.  James joined the army, travelling to various places and eventually settled in Canada getting free grants from the Queen to start his own farm.

Hi Nooshie,

A lot of my family history is based around Fivehead and Curry Rivel so your post caught my eye. 

I can tell you a little more about Elena West as she had a somewhat complicated connection with my family. 

I am descended from James and Susan North and they had four children all born in Fivehead.  Two of the daughters married Hoopers.  Elizabeth married Thomas, Mary married Isaac.  I am still trying to find out if they were from the same family.

Isaac Hooper's sister was Elena who married Lot Curtis 29 October 1872.  They had at least one daughter Laura b abt 1875.  Elena was widowed sometime before the 1881 census when she was living with her widowed brother Isaac.  Isaac died in October 1881. 

I traced Elena's marriage to John West (14 April 1881 in Fivehead) purely out of curiosity - got a bit sidetracked as usual  Smiley

Hi Debbie, I do have Elena Hooper Curtis West married in Isle Abbott Oct 29 1872 to Lot Curtis, he was a railway porter and I do have his parents information here as well if you don't have it.  I have found two children Lilly 1873 and Laura 1875, but as you said only Laura them was alive or at least living with her mother in the census.  Afterward her husbands death she married John West and had five more children and I do have some of their marriages but not much else.  I have been on pins and needles waiting for Nooshie to come back on line so we can trade all the West info.  I also have Hooper information but I am sure its probably the same as you have retrieved from that website.  After having another look at my file, Lilly married a George Tippen in Isle Abott in July 11th, 1893.  Shelly
