I would be very grateful for a lookup in the 1851 or 1861 Census, please. I'm searching for Patrick MacINTYRE, who was reputedly born at Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire in about 1846, son of Malcolm MacINTYRE and Marjory MacINTOSH.
I found a marriage for his parents on 26 Jun 1845 at Row, Dunbarton, but no sign of his birth on the IGI. I also found the births of some possible other children of Malcolm MacINTYRE and Marjory MacINTOSH on the IGI, as follows:
Peter McINTYRE b. 5 Jun 1846 Blair Atholl, Perth Catherine McINTYRE b. 2 Feb 1848 Blair Atholl Rachel McINTYRE b. 3 Apr 1850 Blair Atholl Jessie McINTYRE b. 10 Dec 1852 Blair Atholl Marjory McINTYRE b. 10 Dec 1854 Blair Atholl
However, I have no real evidence that it's the same family, apart from the parents' names being the same. Patrick MacINTYRE was probably in New Zealand by around 1870, so is not likely to appear on the 1871 Census.
It would be great to find him with his parents in a census, and then perhaps I can look for a birth record. I'd appreciate any help.
Regards and best wishes,
Brett Payne Tauranga, New Zealand

Hello Brett,
ScotlandsPeople show 3 Patrick McIntyres of about the right age in 1851
Patrick aged 4 in Greenock, Renfrewshire Patrick aged 6 in Gorbals, Glasgow Patrick aged 6 in Leith South, Edinburgh
and 4 Patricks in 1861
Patrick (Mac) aged 16 in Abertarff or Fort Augustus, Inverness Patrick (Mac) aged 15 in Glasgow Central District Patrick (Mc) aged 15 in Dundee Second District Patrick (Mc) aged 16 in Glasgow Central District
hard to know which one to check the actual record ....
It would seem to me, but could be wrong that the family below from Blair Atholl is unlikely to be yours IF your Patrick was born in 1846. Assuming Malcolm and Marjory didn't have any children before their marriage (although possible) a marriage in 1845 resulting in a son, Peter born in 1846 means that Patrick and Peter would have been born at the same time ... unless could Patrick be Peter or vice versa??
regards,
Lindsay

Dear Lindsay,
Thank you very much for the lookups, for which I'm very grateful. I have recently discovered from medical records here in New Zealand that Dr. Patrick MacIntyre was also called Peter!!! This now makes sense, as I couldn't work out where a Patrick would fit into the Blair Atholl family either. My guess is that he only called himself Patrick after childhood.
Regards and best wishes, Brett

Wonderful, Lindsay - thank you!!!!! I think it's probably best that I go and get the images for this from ScotlandsPeople. Many, many thanks for confirming this. I presume you are using up your own credits, for which I'm very grateful. If you need any Derbytshire research done in exchange, just say the word!
Regards and best wishes, Brett
