I have a Robert Bowness married to Eleanor Unthank in 1749 at Orton. I am confused to which Robert Bowness this was I have two one born 1726 and one born 1721. I would like to know from the records who Roberts parents were then that will clear this up thank you

also marriage:
15 Feb 1717/8 Robert Bownes and Elizabeth Scaife
There are other Raisbeck Bowness couples having children over the same period.
Sorry, I don't have Orton parish registers for 1726. I only requested the registers for certain periods.

How do you obtain these records? Do you have to be in UK? I think I need the parish records of 1749 the date of the marriage to determine the parents of the Robert married to Eleanor Unthank then I will know which one is which.
If Possible I would like to know the other Bowness' you mention as they are all related. I can make sure I have them all

My parish registers stop at 1746 so I don't have that 1749 marriage either. The marriages for 1746 do not give the names of parents but they do give parish or Orton township where different from Orton and Orton. That might be enough for you.
I requested and paid for copies from the relevant Cumbria record office. I'm not sure if they would post stuff o/s the UK. They might be prepared to do a lookup for you if you emailed with specific information.
I'll provide the other Bowness records in a separate post when I have more time.

Hi Deborah
Thank you very much for that. I shall now check all these names against my notes. I at least now no Robert was a teacher so will go back and look and see if that helps. I will also email the Cumbria records office.
