Hello Listers
I hope someone can do a look up for me please for a marriage of John Frost to an Elizabeth surname unknown early 1800's. I believe their first child John Frost was born 1807 in Arley, Warwickshire. Elizabeth was born in Derbyshire according to an 1851 census but I cannot make out the district the handwriting is a bit flowery, it begins with Sw I think.
Derbyshire is new territory for me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to scan the census entry and crop it so that just the illegible bit appears then post it along with this query?
Some of us maybe able to decipher the writing... worth a try.

Hi again, My suggestion is that now you repost this with a different
Subject Line... eg... Help please deciphering this Derbys. town name
or Can you read what this Debys town is called... something like that.
There are always people who enjoy this puzzle.
I can't decide if the first letter is L or S. Maybe you can look at the rest of the doc. and see if that capital letter is used elsewhere and deduce what it is from that. I've looked in AA atlas and can't see any likely town that fits.

I think the first letter is 'S' comparing it with the rest of the census.
I have done what you suggested and relisted just the problem of the name.

I'll look at the new posting and see where it goes from there.
Looking in an AA artlas when you get the first few letters deciphered is not a bad way to have a stab at this sort of puzzle.

Yes my husband has been looking on a road atlas map, but perhaps we need an old ordanance survey map which we haven't got as this is completely new territory for us.
