Looking for Orr's
« on: Friday 21 April 06 13:49 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I am trying to find my G.Grandfather and G.G.Grandfather who I have been told came from County Mayo.

The information I have is:

G.G.Grandfather = Francis Orr - I do not know his DOB, DOD or who he married.

G.Grandfather = Malcolm Orr - I know he was born in 1894 and eventually settled down in Hull, East Yorkshire, England. He married Annie Meggitt and they had six children (they did have others that unfortunatly did not survive infancy).

Malcolm also had a brother Eugene Orr who settled in Hull, East Yorkshire, England.

I think that there may have been a sister but I do not know her name although I do know she settled in Birkenhead.

I'm looking for any Orr's in County Mayo that this may sound familiar too.

Kimie:
Orr was a very common name in County Down so it wight be worthwhile to include that in your searching.  Here is link to Ros Davies' great site for County Down and you will note that there are quite a few listed, even one Malcolm, wrong time period but an unsual name. Looks like he was named after mother's maiden name.

Rev. Malcolm ORR . Comber of Ballybeen; b. abt. 1794; son of William Orr & Margaret Malcolm

Here is link to Caora where there is an index to Head-of-household for 1901 census.  http://www.caora.net/find.php

Antrim is another county with many Orrs.

Good luck,

Pat
