I'm interested in finding anything out about my 3xgt grandmother, Elizabeth AMBLER, born in 1794.
Unfortunately she died in 1832 in Preston, Lancs, so I don't have any census record for her to find out her place of birth.
From Elizabeth's children's names, her father's name seems likely to have been Charles and her mother Mary or Elizabeth.
AMBLER is not a surname native to the Preston area so I suspect the family came from further afield, and the only other Amblers in Preston at about that time seem to have originated in Keighley, including a Charles Ambler. This Charles gave one of his children the middle name of CASSON which makes it likely that he is the son of Charles AMBLER and Elizabeth CASSON, b 1778, Keighley (from IGI). However, the only Elizabeth born to this couple is too old to be mine.
Does anyone connect with this family?
Grateful for any help
Best wishes Hilary

Hi Hilary
Looking at the IGI in your timeframe it seems Yorkshire is the only place in England to have this name.
The only record with father Charles that I found is Betty Ambler - parents Charles and Mary Bland, christening 14 JUN 1795 Keighley, Yorkshire, England. They also appear to have another Betty, born 1782 - presumably she died at an early age. There are some siblings to this family - John Jonah and Henry. Hope this helps.
