MUST SEE LINK: If your ancestors came from Buckinghamshire...
« on: Monday 24 April 06 05:14 UTC (UK) »

Dear RootsChatters - if any of your family came from Buckinghamshire, it would be a good idea to visit the website link listed below.

The ROADS Family of Buckinghamshire, and 'One-Place-Studies' of Waddesdon, Grendon Underwood and Wotton Underwood.

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=hrohrer

This is a huge family tree consisting of at least 100,000 individuals spanning several centuries and going back as far as C1480.

Hoping that this research information already done will provide much needed genealogy assistance for one lucky individual.

Regards, Allycat Downunder.

This is indeed a great site and thank you for posting the address.  However, I have found errors in my direct Alderman line.  Easy enough to happen, I know, when you have several persons born about the same time, and with the same christian name and then disappearing.  In my case, the disappearance was to Australia.   Nevertheless this site is a great reference point.  Gazania.

Dear Gazania (and others interested in Bucks. ancestry)

Once going to Heather Rohrer's website, and upon finding your ancestors there - if there are any errors / omissions etc, please click on "add post-em" and this will send an email direct to the webmaster who will make the alterations and know the source.  Allycat.

I have used this site a lot. I also contacted Heather about another side of the family which is connected. She is a very nice lady and send back a letter of thanks.
Also, and I don't know if you will be able to find it, because I don't have the web address handy, there is a site which begins www.familyorigins.com    forgotten the rest, but a chap called Mark J Warner has an entry called My Family. That is bloomin' brilliant.
Compare these two, throw in the IGI and you've got it made. (Then join Bucks FHS to make sure all of them are right.)
That's how I'm back to the 1500s in North Marston. I'm not clever, it was nearly all done for me!

Dear Paula, Hi there.  Thank you so much for sharing that valuable information regarding the familyorigins website.  Brilliant.  I've just been having a little look.  It's a lot to take in.

And yes Heather is rather a nice gal.  I correspond with her from time to time.

So glad you were able to stretch your family tree back to the 1500s.  It is really amazing when you can tie all the pieces together, and that does take a bit of clever work!!!!

Bye now, Al in sunny Queensland, Australia.

Pleasure to be of service, Al.
It is a vast site, not entirely correct to my way of thinking, but very, very few mistakes.
I suppose really it's just the way we interpret the records when we see them.
I've taken such a lot from you Rootschat  people it's nice to give something back for a change. Smiley

Ever seen those trees on the web that claim to have Adam and Eve as their ancestors?  If not, goto the rootsweb world connect site, type in Adam husband and Eve spouse and see what you get.  Very surprising indeed.

I've only seen this thread tonight.I've got one person on the Site a Sarah Harding born in Quattendon in 1773.She married my relative Edward Griffiths at Chesham in 1795.Apparently the person whose Site it is does not know this yet!

Couldn't resist commenting  to this thread being recently revisited .......  many of my ancestors have come under Heather Rohrer's scope of interest.  I have also corresponded with her in the past.  She will quite avidly pursue all contacts made and can provide insight and assistance.  She will also want all the information you have available and it will end up on her "tree".     I think she is a legitimate researcher though I am not a particular fan of "name gathers", I am amazed at the reseach and the significant amount of accuracy she had obtained,  but there are some pieces (relative to my own particular family interests) which are not accurate and remain speculative.  How she (or anyone)  can research all these families and individuals with scrutiny and proper due diligence  ( obtaining validating certs,  for instance) continues to perplex me.   Though I do refer to her site and I do give considerable credibility to her information  -- discretion and re-validation would be prudent...... just my opinion.

A think one of the reasons why Heather and Mark have such a vast wealth of information in their Trees, is because Bucks is so open and generous with their information.
They are, without a doubt, the best county for genealogy that I have come across.
