My Aberdeenshire Surnames up to John ALLARDYCE, Provost of Aberdeen 1700
« on: Tuesday 25 April 06 04:04 BST (UK) »

SURNAMES: ALLARDYCE, BUCHAN, CHALMERS, CLARKE, CRAWFORD, DOWNIE,
                RITCHIE, TRAILL, WALKER, WOODCOCK

Dear Rootschatters, I've got the right to do a bit of bragging here as I've got some pretty snazzy Scottish ancestors.

Top of my tree John 'The Elder' ALLARDYCE born C 1620 Scotland, died 1699.  Married Isobel WALKER and they had at least one known son, John ALLARDYCE who was known as the 'Provost of Aberdeen' born 1656/1657 Scotland.

John ALLARDYCE married twice, see website link:-

http://genforum.genealogy.com/allardyce/messages/73.html

( Also another fantastic Allardyce websites - History page at http://www.allardice.org/ )

I'm not sure which wife was the mother of Christian ALLARDYCE who was born 1690 Aberdeen, Scotland, died 1747 Brechin, Angus, Scotland.

N.B. one of Christian's daughters Susannah TRAILL married into the 'Chalmers family of Balnacraig'.

Christian married into the TRAIL/L family who were all from the Pittulie / Pitsligo / Montrose Angus etc. areas.  Tree goes all the way down to my English grandfather's grandmother Isabella Milne BUCHAN who was born 1837 in Pitsligo to parents Alexander BUCHAN 1814-1889 of Rosehearty and Barbara TRAIL 1815-? of Pitsligo.

My gg grandmother Isabella's name and a lot of her ancestry can be found in this tree on the internet:-

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ianmal&id=I9341

and this is the fellow's homepage:- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jillian.malcolmson/index.htm

I also found my gg grandmother's name in this enormous tree on the web:-

http://www1.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=johnmmillar&view=9&rand=177868891

This tree has everyone from 'Robert the Bruce' to 'Judy Garland' in it.

Does anyone have any connections?  Allycat in Australia.
