I would say it is Ann Martin, M.S. Mcquat or Mceuat, deceased. Although it is vey dificult to say. I would look at Edinburgh if I was you as you will get a better image. What other info do you have?

Ok, all Agnes Martin deaths in Scotland who were born between 1780-1810 post 1855! With other surnames starting with Mc (no Mac entries).
1. 1857 MARTIN AGNES SMITH MCDONALD, 63, KINTORE /ABERDEEN 2. 1858 MARTIN AGNES MCANSH MCGOWAN, 77, PAISLEY MIDDLE CHURCH /RENFREW 3. 1871 MARTIN AGNES MCLACHLAN MARCHBANK, 74, TRADESTON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 4. 1875 MARTIN AGNES MCBLANE, 81, MAYBOLE /AYR 5. 1879 MARTIN AGNES MCMATH/MCMATH, 91,NEWINGTON EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 6. 1876 MARTIN AGNES MCKECHNIE, 75, ST ROLLOX GLASGOW CITY/LANARK
Added: Remember that on SP results, main surnames can be either maiden name or married name. No way of telling until you view cert. which is a pity. For example from 1841 FreeCen I can see an Agnes married to a William McKechnie (maybe entry No.6 above?).

Did you download from Scotlands People? If you did I would drop them a contact e-mail as I think the image is illegible. They are usually very nice people & should send you a paper copy which may make it easier to read.

Hi Helen
I think Joette's point is good, I've done it myself a couple of times and it makes a big difference to read from a direct paper copy. See this for contact with SP: www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/help/index.aspx?r=1210.
Just wondered, is Alexander Martin showing from censuses as being born in Scotland (or Ireland?).
Regards.
