IGI have Ann McQuat as Watt.............say it quickly enough and you'll see why! If you do the parent seach as Alexander Martin and Ann Watt in Argyll you'll see the childrens' entries in Campelltown.

Regards.

That's really good to know as I have just received an OPR that is very hard to read the copy of because it is very pale, I think I might get in touch.

Glad you have been successful in finding out who your lady is, it is fascinating isn't it.  I have literally come in, put my bag down and straight on here to see what I can do!

These are the children showing for Francis McWatt (!) and Agnes Taylor on IGI:

PETER MCWATT  - Birth: 14 FEB 1803 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
ARCHIBALD MCWATT - Birth: 01 OCT 1809 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
MARY MCWATT - Birth: 01 MAR 1798 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
HELEN MCWATT - Birth: 23 JUL 1805 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
MARGARET MCWATT - Birth: 31 MAR 1800 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Ann's birth, going by the age at death, would have been aroung 1786. So missing a few children before Mary b.1798 and the other four children on IGI.

Hi Monica,

Thanks I also have Ann and Isabella, 7 children in total, with a lot of help from you, any ideas how to

trace daughters marriages, that seems to be a bit more difficult than tracing sons.

Helen.

By Ann I assume you mean the Ann that married Alexander Martin (?), and we have her line. I think this is Archibald's, b. 1809, marriage:

Spouse:     ANN COCHRANE
Marriage:     27 DEC 1835      Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

And, from 1841 FreeCen:

MCWATT    Archd    30       Bolt Maker        Lanarkshire
MCWATT    Ann     30                               Lanarkshire
MCWATT    Fras M    3                              Lanarkshire
MCWATT    Agness   1m                            Lanarkshire
COCHRANSMary    15         Female Servant       Lanarkshire

Address: Address: 5 Coronation Lane, Gorbals Glasgow.

I'll have a look and see if I can find any more.

I think this is also probably one more son to Francis and Agnes Taylor that we don't have:

Francis McWatt  Birth: About 1793 Of Anderston, Barony, Lanark, Scotland (submitted record)

Marriage: ANN RISK 04 DEC 1818  Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

AGNES MCWATT  - Birth: 31 JAN 1831/Christening: 27 FEB 1831 Barony, Lanark,
FRANCIS MCWATT - Birth: 28 NOV 1819 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
JOHN MCWATT - Birth 11 FEB 1827/Christening 04 MAR 1827 Barony, Lanark, Scotland. Mother down as Ann Kirk.
MARY MCWATT -  Birth: 27 NOV 1828/Christening: 19 DEC 1828 Barony, Lanark.

There is no record of them on FreeCen 1841 but they are probably in an area not yet transcribed.

Hi,

I know this is an old thread, however I just came across the reference to Alexander Martin and Anne Watt/ McWatt of Campbeltown Argyll. I am seaching for details of Alexander Martin who married Anne 29 Nov 1813 in Glasgow. Has anyone further information.
I am new at this but learnig, so any help would be really helpfull. The 1841 Census list Alexander as a Corporal in Argyll Militia, maybe some one has details for this.

Thanks
