Oh how I'd love to have my webspace, even if I have to struggle with the technical bits BUT will it all work when doing it from a Mac? I've had the experience of signing up for webspace before only to find the webuilding programs are not compatible with Macs - why not - Mac's are far superior computers - stir, stir, stir - and now I'll just stand back

Hi Tessy
I hate to see Mac related queries not answered!
RootsChat doesn't provide you with a web building program. You need to create your pages first, and then upload them to the RootsChat servers. I presume they are not fussy about whether the pages are coming from a Windows or Mac computer (no doubt Falkryn or Berlin Bob will correct me on that).
Do you use a gedcom/family history program on your Mac? I believe the two main ones, Reunion and Heredis, both create web pages for you from the information you've entered to create your family tree.
Or, you could use a web html-maker program like Dreamweaver or Freeway to create your pages.
Or, you could write your own html using a plain text editor like Text Wrangler or BBEdit. There is TextEdit that comes with Mac OSX which you can save as a html file, but I've never tested that, so don't know how successful it is.
Cheers Koromo

Hi Tessy,
I hadn't said anything up to now, as I have no experience at all with Macs.
But I can at least confirm what Koromo has said
You need to create your pages first, and then upload them to the RootsChat servers. I presume they are not fussy about whether the pages are coming from a Windows or Mac computer (no doubt Falkryn or Berlin Bob will correct me on that). This is very true: a web-server stores HTML pages which are then downloaded to the caller's browser. Whether you created these pages under Mac, Windows, Linux, Unix, or on a Sun workstation or a Cray supercomputer, etc, etc, is totally irrelevant; main thing is, the HTML is correct !!
Rather than repeat Koromo's other comments, I'll just say, yes I agree.
Give it a go, and ask when you have any problems.
Bob
