I've looked further back in the baptisms for Stilton and I found: 2 Nov 1806 Louisa Glover baseborn daug of Mark and Mary MERRYL, publickly in 1801 5 Nov there is William Glover son of Mark and Lydia, privately 1800 22nd July, William Glover son of Mark and Lydia, privately.
in 1839 Oct 1 Mark Glover was buried, age 81 in 1803 Oct 17 Lydia Glover was buried, age 39, otp in 1800 Oct 18, William Glover buried, inf otp
I have a gut feeling that Mark, barber = George, hairdresser!
But it will probably take a lot of negative research and even then it won't prove it conclusively: - any burials/marriages of another Henry who could have been the son of Mark - any other census entries for a Henry - any burials/census entries for George
To start the ball rolling there are no burials of a Henry in Hunts pre 1837. (there is a burial of Henry age 73 at Wisbech on 23 Dec 1888). Nor is there a burial of a George in Hunts or Cambs pre 1837
Mary Merril lived in Stilton in 1851 where she was described as unmarried, so I think you are right about her Ruth

I've checked the Stilton parish records and the only burials in the 1800's for Glover are the 3 that I have already given. With regards marriages there is one in 1797 and then a big jump to 1927. The last christening is the one already given for Henry in 1816. Ruth
