We have a large family Bible ,Old and New Testiment printed in1674. There are two names written inside the cover. Can anyone shew any light on the history of these people, they maybe relatives of mine? The first message says and I quote. " Once belonging to Dr. Jorhr. " unquote. The second entry is as follows and I quote. " The Reverend John Wartons Book 1801. " unquote. I would be most interested if anyone has any ideas.

H i The Holy bible, Old and New Testament was printed in1674. I guess the 1801 was the date he received it and was not his date of birth. The words in the Bible are as follows. "Once belonged to Dr. Jorhr" Then a new entry as follows."The Reverend John Wartons Book 1801" There could be a little bit of guesswork whether it was his date of birth, I have assumed it was the date he entered his name in the front cover. Hi John, P.S. Where is Apple-by and Milburn? Some very familiar names in our family tree are, Davies, Dudley,Ya pp, Groom,Gower, Butter, and others, does this perhaps give us some clues? With families generally in Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire , Worcestershire, Mid and North wales. Eric.

Hi. I find this most interesting, we do in later years have connections in Lancs and Yorkshire. Family names Shaw and Chadwicks and maybe others. My grandmother often suggested we had connections with holy orders, she came from a family line of school teachers. Eric.
