Finding former house occupants
« on: Tuesday 02 May 06 13:21 BST (UK) »

Hi

I am looking for the date my Great Grandparents (Leonard and Phyliss Maund)Emmigrated to Canada.
My only information i have is that they were living at 92 Sophia St, East City, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada in 1916.
Can anyone explain how i can trace back by year if they were living there prior to that date.

Thanks

Brummy

The Peterborough city directories in Toronto's Central Reference Library are pretty sporadic before 1970.  They have them for 1916, 1925, 1926, 1930, 1935, 1949 and 1960.  I imagine that the library in Peterborough has a complete collection.

I checked the 1911 census at http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test4.jsp but came up empty. No luck at http://members.shaw.ca/nanaimo.fhs/#mozTocId46239 either but it's not comprehensive.

Hi Brummy,

If they owned the house, you can get a copy of the asbtract which shows everything that has been registered on a piece of land, deeds, mortgages, liens etc.

Found a 1914 Peterborough Assessment, at Trent Valley Archives
http://www.trentvalleyarchives.com/resources.htm
It shows a

and a
Lonard Maund, tenant, 452 Mark Street (rear)
