I have a feeling this may be a generation out!

Stephen Burgess married Sarah Nash 18 Jul 1816 Patney.

Kind Regards,

I have Stephen Burgess, son of John Burgess and Lucy Palmer, who was born in 1777 and married Elizabeth Wells in 1800.  He later married Sarah Nash in 1816.  I'm descended from John and Lucy (I go back several generations beyond that).

Hi,

I just tried to send you a long message by way of reply with a lot of family details, but I'm not all that confident it was sent or reached you.  Can you let me know, please, and if it didn't get there I'll try to send it again.  Lots of information on Isaac Burgess and the Palmer family three generations beyond Lucy.

Cheers,

Colin

For the Burgess family back beyond Stephen, a website set up by distant relative Carole Chapman (who lives north of here in New South Wales) will give you a lot of family information, taking you back a few more generations.  I contacted Carole a couple of years back and we exchanged helpful information.  The website is:

www.angelfire.com/ms/chapman/burgess_england.html

Re your query on Isaac Burgess: baptised 26 January 1812 in Patney, died March 1897.  Married Mary Anne Ferris (born 1815) on 8 June 1833 in Chirton.  Children, and dates of birth, were: Michael (1833), Stephen (29 July 1835), George (21 September 1837), Abel (5 January 1840), Levi (6 June 1841), Ann Alice (2 July 1842), Cornelius (24 May 1846), Elizabeth (27 May 1849), Hester (22 June 1851), William (25 December 1854), Sarah Jane 29 April 1857) and James (6 June 1859).

Re Lucy Palmer's parents: they were James Palmer (baptised 4 July 1722 in Patney) and Elizabeth (nee Bradfield).  Children were Betty (1743), Ann (1745), John (1747), Lucy (1750), Martha (1751), William (1753), Mark (1754) and Dinah (1758).

James Palmer's father was John Palmer (baptised 23 November 1697 in Patney), died 1745.  He married Sarah (surname unknown) and they had children James (1722), Jane (1724), Elizabeth (1726), Thomas (1728), Sarah (1730) and Richard (1732).

John Palmer's father was John Palmer, baptised 17 September 1673, married Catherine (surname unknown) who died in 1747 in Patney.  Children were John (1697), William (1700), Thomas (1702), Edward (1705), Richard (1709) and Mary (1713).

John Palmer's parents were Thomas Palmer and Anne (surname unknown).  Their known children were Emme (1671), John (1673) and Thomas (1677).

Hope all that helps.

I have an Isaac & Mary Burgess in my tree.  The 1881 census has them living in Bratton, Wiltshire [just down the road from Patney].  It also lists both as being born in Bratton.

I have an IGI record listing a child - Lydia...

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=500164033449&lds=1&region=2&frompage=99

This shows that she was baptised 27 AUG 1865   Bratton, Wiltshire, England at the age of 18

Is it possible that this Isaac & Mary are the same as your?

Unfortunately, I don't think so.  The Isaac in my line was born in Patney in 1811 and died in 1897 (I'm not sure where).  Mary Anne (nee Ferris) was born in 1815 and died in 1895.  They had 12 children.  The first, Michael, was born in 1897 and the last, James, in 1859, when Mary would have been 44 years old.  If Lydia was 18 years old when she was christened in 1865, she would have been born in 1846/1847.  Isaac and Mary had Cornelius in May 1846 (born in Patney) and then Elizabeth in May 1849, with no child listed in between.  I also have no Lydia Burgesses in my family tree - although by a remarkable coincidence a Lydia Burgess today lives just five houses up the street from us!
