COMPLETED - Edward Sears b1823 Parish Records Gamlingay
« on: Saturday 06 January 07 21:03 GMT (UK) »

Hello Kind and Helpful volunteer,

I have Edward Sears b1823 Gamlingay. Later Stud Groom for Viscount Booth of Booths Gin fame I believe.

Wife Elizabeth b1826 Potton, Beds.

Children George, Henry, Lucy (My great grandmother), Elizabeth, Louisa, Harriet born 1850-1868.

I'd just like any christening/marriage/burial searches please. I have him on Census 1851,  1871, 1881 already.

I am particularly interested in his parents and, if possible details on his wife Elizabeth.

Thank you for your help.

The IGI on www.familysearch.org is the best place to start. You'll find what appears to be his marriage in Gamlingay in 1848.

Cambs FHS has an excellent site at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html
which includes a baptism index, but I can't see him there although there are other Sear baptisms in the parish at about the right time*

Regards

David

*There are more baptisms indexed as Seer on both the IGI and the Baptism Index.  He appears to be Edmund Seer - as he was in 1851 - not Edward

Potton PR has been extracted onto the IGI - like Sears/Sear/Seer you may need to try alternative spellings - eg Almond

Thanks David,

Nice catch on his marriage, I'd missed that.

I've tried cfhs. I'm either not doing it right or I'm getting nothing relevant. There are some Sear's but no match as you say.

Thanks for the Edmund pointer, I hadn't noticed that.

Still hunting. :-)

Edmund Seer is on both the Cambs FHS index and the IGI - 1 Oct 1824 at Gamlingay, son of Wm and Ann

On the IGI if you put in batch number C073631 and seer as last name you'll get all variations

Thanks David,

I'd just found Wm and Ann when you posted. :-)

I guess that makes this search complete. Thank you again.
