the great zylbastrian band
« on: Sunday 24 June 07 20:00 BST (UK) »

Can anyone tell me about a band from Kent called The Great Zylbastrian Band. I am led to believe that this was a family band . Apparently they played at the Palladium Could be 1905----1920 or even later.  Could have come from Dartford Kent
Any help much appreciated

Do you know what the timeframe is?

London Palladium did not open until 1910.

Many thanks for your reply looking at the outfits and their ages I would have thought 1910-1920. but not really sure.

You could try the British BigBand Database site.

Hello Ken and Julie. My Mother told me that the Great Zylbastrian Band was her Grandfather and his children - surname BUCK, born in south London, near enough to Dartford! The date was much before 1905 though and I understand that they performed in Music Halls all over England.  It seems as if you have some photos I would love to see them and I hope that we can exchange information? I have been looking for this band for years!

Hello old bailey, I have sent you a pm, have you received it?; would love further info as  relatives of mine played in the band.  The picture I have is of them playing a giant xylophone. Maybe they married into your family!. Please get in touch

Hello Old bailey. The photo shows 7 people playing the xylophone, 4 men and three women, there is also a male on the big bass drum.
The photo was taken by G Moone of 61 Denmark Hill London.

Hi Ken

Did you and OldBailey manage to make contact - I don't think new members (hence OldBailey) can make use of the PM system until they have made three posts/replies on the boards?
