Hi Foxglove

Sorry, but there were no books on open access to the public concerning Robertsbridge.

Therefore I was unable to check the baptism of Ann Fardell

Sorry

Chris,
If at all possible – and time permits – I would be interested to know if there are any burial details in Brighton for a Thomas Sayers (spouse of Louisa).  He was around in 1832 for a christening, but not found in the 1841 Census (although Louisa wasn’t found either).  However, in 1851 Louisa is on the census as widowed.

Burial: Thomas Sayers of Brighton, 1832 - 1840, spouse of Louisa.

Thank you,

Amy

Yes and Yes

Yes, I have been inundated, but managed to get through them all with the help of my 15 year old daughter - she is getting good at it now, but hates all the writing.

Yes, I am going to Lewes tomorrow, but at the present time have only 2 requests for information - so please feel free to list your requirements

Meg

I noticed today that only books on marriages and baptisms are on open access for Brighton - no burials are available; but even so the others take up nearly half the shelving.

All the other books for the churches in East Sussex contain birth, marriage and burials - but Brighton must be to big, or they have not transcribed them yet

Sorry me duck

Hi Roger

Again there are conflicts with my data!!  All are with dates.  I am sure that yours are right and mine are wrong but since I know that the handwriting is sometimes difficult could you please double check the following before I amend my records.

Jan 18th 1691 - Ann, dau of Thomas & Ann (I have 16 Jan 1691)
my finger started on one line, slipped to the next - should be Jan 18th 1690

Dec 23rd 1700 - Mary, dau of Thomas & Mary (I have 23 December 1711)
the 1700 date is correct according to transcription

Jan 30th 1715 - Mary, dau of Christopher & Mary (I have 30 Jan 1714)
the 1715 date is correct according to transcription

Also found these

Nov 22nd 1691, John son of Christopher Baptized which goes with
June 3rd 1691, John son of Christopher christened.

Mar 8th 1713, Elizabeth dau of Thomas Baptized which goes with
Aug 23rd 1713, Elizabeth dau of Thomas & Mary christened

Remember the year started on March 24th and finished on March 23 - so it was possible to be christened in Aug and then be baptized into the church in March

Noticed these
Jan 4th 1718, Sarah, dau of Chris & Mary christened
Mar 16th 1718, Mary, dau of John & Letitia? baptized
Jun 17th 1720, Hannah dau of Chris & Mary christened
May 3rd 1724, A...?, dau of Chris & Mary christened

and this

Samuel Thorpe of Hastings & Ann Cramp married 13th Feb 1700 (From Bishops transcripts)
Christopher Thorpe & Mary Farncombe married 26th April 1711

Hi Jard

Richard was born in 1786 to another James Ticehurst and Abigail Pierce .
These two wed in Eastbourne on 24/12/1778.

Looked in the Jevington register - stacks of Pierce entries, but could not locate the above.
The marriage details in the transcript give you no more information than you provided me with.

Whilst searching, I found these:-

Baptism - St Mary Eastbourne
1779 Nov 21st, James, son of James and Abigail
1781 Mar 18th, Barbara, dau of James & Abigail
1783 Jul 20th, Richard, son of Ann - Baseborn Child
1786 Jul 18th, Sam, son of James & Abigail

looked as far as 1800 without finding any further entries.

Hope you can tie them all in to your tree

Chris,
That #@! Thomas Sayers!  One day he will come to light, I’m sure.  Maybe if I switched over to some other Sussex folks...

Brighton Baptisms (which I haven’t been able to find on the IGI):
Father: William Marchant, Mother: Ann Elizabeth Swift:
James, b. 1859
Albert Edward, b. 1869
William Robert, b. 1871

With thanks to both you and your daughter for doing all this work for us Sussex researchers.  We are very lucky to have you with us.

Many thanks,

Hi Chris,
Thanks for offering to give up your valuable time for us!!

I have a few look ups, but please only do them IF you have time.

Bapt  -  Sarah Dennett  -  Twineham  -  abt 1700

Bapt -  Ann Mantle - Twineham  -  abt 1728

Bapt  -  Mary Terry/Perry - Hurstpierpoint - abt 1734

Bapt  -  Agnes Collyer  -  Hove - abt 1620

Bapt -  Mercy Underhill  -  Plumpton  - abt 1600

Please don't feel obliged to look these up at all. They have remained undiscovered up until now, so a few more months won't do any harm!!

Many thanks

Chris always seems to be busy doing something on here im always surprised with how he manages to keep up.  I have been to the East Sussex Record Office once during the summer and didn't find much what i was after, because i found out the family were Kent and not Sussex so i had to go to Maidstone Record Office during the summer and found what i wanted.  I got to say that the staff at Mainstone were more helpful with if you need help then Lewes are.  Now with help of Chris on the census i've now found out that the family now were in the Sussex area as well Roll Eyes

It is good of Kris to take the time to search for other people.  I will have to pay another visit to the Record Office someday.
