Help please...with fiche reader
« on: Tuesday 16 May 06 01:47 BST (UK) »

Hi there  Smiley

I have a question about parts on a fiche reader. I bought one 2nd hand which works but won't focus. I've taken it to bits and had a look at it and everything seems to be ok. However, inside are 2 lens which both have a threaded collar on them. The lens and collar drop into 2 holes. With the front off the reader I can see that when I turn the focus button this turns the collar on the lens in the centre. There's a slider bar that moves the lens from side to side so you can pick which lens is used. There is nothing there though to thread the collar to so when it is turned using the focus button it just goes round in circles! Should there be a 2nd threaded fitting which maybe goes in the hole first or in from the underneath so that when the collar is turned it raises or lowers the lens using the threads? That doesn't sound very clear to me so I hope you can understand what I'm trying to ask! And never having used a fiche reader before I'm not sure what parts there should be.

Any help would be much appreciated as at the moment I can only read my fiche by adjusting the slider bar verrry slowly until it comes into focus and have to do this everytime I move the fiche, even if it's only half an image - not only annoying but not doing a lot for my eyes either!

If someone who has a fiche reader could have a look and see if I've got parts missing it would be very helpful. I don't know if it's relevant but it's a Micron 780A reader.

Many thanks,

Debbie
