My G G Aunt was married in 1900 Stepney to Henry Kohter, I have found his family on the 1881 census listed under Kohle. His father is listed as John H Kohle (Gas Stoker) from Germany, mother Eliza, they were married in 1874. John's father has been listed as John Frederick Kohte Their is also another family Henry Kohte (also a Gas Stoker from Germany listed) which i think may be Johns brother as a Henry Kohte witnessed their marriage. sometime between the 1881 census and Henry getting married in 1900 the name has gone from Kohte to Kohter and again in 1928 to Coater.

John H Kohte was born c1850 and would like to know where i can get any more info on him and his family in  germany and where i would find any details of when and how he came to England.
