Shame no parents names are given- hopefully some kind soul will be going to the Derby record office soon-and might look them up for you
Hi Jeremiah Topham =Elizabeth Sheward 1.11.1826 St. Alkmund, Derby. All the children you list were bpts. Duffield and are on IGI with parents. However their first child would appear to have been bpts. 20.5.1827 at Little Eaton her name Sarah.(IGI) There is also a Jeremiah on Freebmd Belper Registration District, June Quarter 1843 Belper 19 415, however I cannot find a bpts. PLEASE NOTE Many people stated they were born in Duffield however they ment the Parish of Duffield, which covered a wide area, not necessarily the Village of Duffield. Spendlove.
Hi, You do not state any occupations, often this helps to explain why people moved about. Do you have any occupations from the Census? You do not have a birth for Jeremiah Topham, could he be the son of Snowden Topham and Sarah Newham married 12.3.1807 St. Alkmund, Derby? This would make him about 18/19 when he married in 1826 Pigots National Commercial Directory of Derbyshire 1828-1829:- DERBY - 2 St. Alkmund's Church Yard Topham, Snowden - Millwright.
Freebody's 1852 Directory DERBY - Bridge Street Topham, Jeremiah - Orchard Street Topham Snowden. These are from http://www.historicaldirectories.org/ Great Site, but do read how to use. Perhaps someone in Derby would take a look at the above addresses in 1851 Census. There are other Tophams in the directories but cannot decide if they are yours. These are the dates Census were taken Midnight. Sun/Mon. 6/7th June 1841 Midnight. Sun/Mon. 30/31st March 1851 Midnight. Sun/Mon. 7/8th April 1861 Midnight. Sun/Mon. 2/3rd April 1871 Midnight. Sun/Mon. 3/4th April 1881 Midnight. Sun/Mon. 5/6th April 1891 Midnight. Sun/Mon. 31/1st March / April 1901 This sometimes helps with ages. In Phillimore transcript:- Snowden Topham Parish of All Saints, Derby married 12.2.1807 Sarah Newham by Licence. This means an Alligation was filed by the couple explaining their situation, which will give you more information about their families. Spendlove
Hi, I keep looking at this and have found the following:-
These are the children of Joseph Topham:- Snoneden Bpt 16.5.1776 (born 7.4.1776) Erasmus " 30.9.1777 (born 5.9.1777) Avid " 15.10.1779 (born 11.9.1779) Horace " 28.8.1781 (born 19.7.1781) All the above were Bpt. at Ripley- Pentrich Non Conformists Derbyshire. IGI batch No. P014911. Erasmus married a few days after Snowden i.e. 23.3.1807 St. Alkmunds Derby Phillimore states they were both of Darley. There is also the following entry (not from the actual registers) on the IGI Horace Topham (Topsham) 21.12.1812 All Saints Derby. These are the children of Mathew Topham (could be be a brother of Joseph) Phoebe 27.10.1762 Sarah 5.7.1765 Ann 27.9.1767 born 20.9.1767 George 11.8.1776 30.7.1776 Thomas 31.1.1779 1.1.1779 Hannah 6.5.1781 10.4.1781 All bpt Ripley-Pentrich P014911. There is a Thomas Topham = Sarah Bower 20.10.1799 at St.Alkmuns both of Darley. It would appear that the families had moved to Derby. This is just to get you excited. Sarah born 1762 could have married William Ludlam 25.12.1782 South Wingfield. Ludlam's and others were involved in England's Last Revolution Pentrich 1817. If this is the case you will receive a lot of help from Pentrich Historical Soc. just search for them on Google. Spendlove
Thank you this is all mind boggleing to say the least and very exciting. I f someone could find them on the 1841 and 1851 census we might be able to tie them all together. Cheers Linda.
PS: Jeremiah Topham Was a Millwright. Charles Topham was a carpenter.
