Has anyone got access to the Bedford Ayslum records?

There is a Joseph Mardell who was buried 4 Jun 1856 age 28 at Bedford Ayslum, and I am trying to eliminate him from my family.

There is also another Joseph Mardell who worked in Bennington near Stevenage but died in a lunatic ayslum in Stotfold (looks like Three Counties on the certificate) in 1880 age 54 years. 

I thought perhaps there might be something in the actual records to say where they was born, or some family detail that would help me.

Any help would be appreciated.
