Hi Folks,

Could anyone clarify these two addresses from a document dated 1899 for me please, both are in Edmonton, Middlesex.

From the handwriting elsewhere on the document, the first one (no 46...) begins with B and I think ends with 'ham' but I can't work out the rest.

In the second address, it's the second word I'm not sure of.

Lastly, if anyone can shed any light on a Brickmaker named Plowman that would be a bonus - the second address is his residence, whether private or a brickworks I don't know!

Hello, Steph.

There is a White House Lane in Enfield if that is any use.

Have you got any 1901 census info for Plowman ?  What is his full name ?  There is a Mark Plowman age 53, a Brick Master,  born Finchley at an address in Enfield, Lindley, Culloden Rd.

Any info on Plowman woulld be a help to finding an addrress for him.

Hi Meliora, thanks for your response.

I'm working from an attestation for my gt-grandfather (dated 1899) who has stated as his present or former Master, a Mr Plowman of White House? Lane, Edmonton and ggf's trade is stated as Brickmaker.

I googled a while after posting yesterday and now realise that brickmakers were rife in Edmonton at the time, but I did find mention of Plowman's Brick Co. who had works in Bridport Road and Houndsfield Road, Edmonton (source http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=26937)

I did have a very brief look on the census for Plowman last week but I had run out of time by then.

I don't suppose there are any Brickworks left now?

Are you familiar with the local library in Edmonton/Enfield - and are they likely to have any records of emplpyers/employees?  I want to visit the area at some stage so will be able to check them out.
