Hi Julie,

It's your site, you'll do what you want, but ...

I seriously advise against a large image on your home page. 

Anybody looking at the site with a dial-up connection will get fed up waiting for it to load, decide not to bother, and go elsewhere. Better is a few thumbnails, as links to the larger images.
