Hannah Hall in Chapel: 1851, 1861 & 1871
« on: Thursday 21 October 04 10:30 BST (UK) »

Hi

I am looking for the family details for Hannah HALL in the Chapel-en-le-Frith censuses for 1851, 1861 & 1871.

She would be about 2 years old in 1851.

Would some kind person with access to any of this census information look up the family.

Thank you

Hi

There are 7 Hannah Hall's in the 1851 census index of Derbyshire.

Any other information to go on - siblings etc.

Hi Sunflower

Thank you for your reply.

I believe that Hannah is my Grandmother.  She first appears in the 1881 census as the wife of my Grandfather Thomas Hayes in Bugsworth (RG11/3457 Folio 23: Page 16) and again as part of an increasing family in the 1891 census still in Bugsworth (RG12/2781 Folio18: page Cool. In 1881 she is shown as being born in Harper Field, Derby but in 1891 it is Chapel-en-le-Frith.  My money is on the latter as being her birthplace.

Her age in 1881 is 32 and in 1891 42, so born about 1849.  This is where I get my age of 2 years old in 1851.

I have found the marriage of Hannah Hall & Thomas Hayes registered in the Quarter ending June 1878 in Hayfield, Vol 7b, page 1063.

Also, in FreeBMD there are 3 births of Hannah's registered  about this time:
Qtr.ending Sep 1848: Chapel, Vol 19, 460
Qtr.ending Sep 1848: Chapel, Vol 19, 418
Qtr.ending Mar 1848: Chapel, Vol 19, 492.

This is all I know of Hannah.  Does the knowledge that she was born in Chapel and was, say, 1 or 2 years of age in the 1851 census narrow down the 7 Hannahs you have found.

If this information has narrowed the field I would appreciate some more of the detail.

I will get the marriage certificate and this should give Hannah's father's name and this should help.

Thank you

Hi Sunflower

I now have the marriage certificate for Thomas Hayes & Hannah Hall and it shows the bride's father as Matthew Hall.

This is same as the head of one of the Chapel 1851 census families.

I think it is reasonable to assume that Matthew Hall is one of my greatgrandfathers.

I think you said you only had the index for the census.  Do you know if there is a full copy of the 1851 census for Chapel online.

Thank you again.

Hayfield.

Hello again

Sorry I don't know of any.

I know the Derbyshire family history society has a search service.
www.dfhs.org.uk

Now you have the piece no. etc. perhaps it would'nt cost too much.

Bye
