Could someone with access to the Dunbartonshire M.I.'s please look and see if there is an M.I. probably in Old Kilpatrick, for Andrew Mor(r)ison, died 1811?

Hi Lindsay didn't get a chance to look up MI or check lairs.If you want to do it yourself the people to contact are Clydebank District Council Roseberry Place Clydebank.
I will be back in July & hopefully would have a chance then.

Hello Miss Poohs,

You're not butting in!! It's a Monumental Inscription i.e. something inscribed on a gravestone.

Many years ago, members of a Mitchell family (probably the most well known) visited all the graveyards in Scotland and recorded the location of pre-1885 graves and the information on the headstones. The records were published by the Scottish Genealogy Society.

Somebody very kindly emailed me the other day to tell me that there is no record of Andrew in the Old Kilpatrick M.I.'s - I didn't really expect that he would have had a headstone, I imagine that he died quite young as he left a widow with 5 children all under the age of 7 and she probably wouldn't have been able to afford it .... but I was hoping that somebody going to O.K. Cemetery might check the Lair records for me.

Lair records are held by the cemeteries themselves sometimes (or their record offices anyway) and they show who is buried in a particular grave, even when there is no headstone marking it.
