This is a picture that I believe is East Street School, both my mother and uncle went there between 1913 and 1920 ish,

Hope it helps.

Hi Croydonian, and welcome to Roots chat,
I expect you have read this thread through and now know there are a few of us Maidonians around and happy to help if we can.
I was born there and lived in College Glen, Alwyn Road, Boulters Court and Littlewick Green.  Did you live in the area or did your family move on?
Cheers Abiam

This is the only bit left of an old school photo (and smartened up by The RC photo experts)  of my Mum's that I think was taken about 1920 and I think it must have been East Street as St Lukes was all boys from age 11.  Any corrections welcome if you know more,
Abiam

That's Ellington, Abiam. I'd recognise those windows anywhere.....  Grin
It's the grass between the building and the side path.

Hi Lesanne,
I don't quite follow this.  My mother was born in August 1910 and left school in 1924/25 aged about 14 or 15.  If it didn't open until 1932 then the above picture cannot be Ellington.

Your quote about Ellington:

"I found the china mug... 60th Anniversary in 1992.
          1932"

So could she have gone to St Lukes?  I always thought that was boys only. Will have to do some more research,

Shocked  oooo... I'll see if I can find anything while I'm up there.

Maybe 1932 was an official opening of the school or extra buildings. It was quite spread out.
or maybe, that was the standard school windows....  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

Hi Lesanne,
I sent an email to Maidenhead Library but he couldn't tell me where little boys from Garden Cotts or Norfolk Park went to school!  Hope your search went well,
Cheers,

Thanks for the date of the formal closing of Elmslie School, which will tidy up a note I am preparing.  It seems also to have had an alternative name, Castle Hill Collegiate School, but I have never understood the distinction between the two names.

Hello Imogen,

Welcome to Rootschat.

My mother was Kathleen Wyse born 1910 in Garden Cottages and by the time she was at East Street school the family were living in Norfolk Park Cottages.  They may well have known each other!

If you have any stories or info on the families there around that time there are several Roots chatters who would be interested.

Cheers,
Abiam
