I found a clue to one of my family mysteries in this very useful site: "http://members.ozemail.com.au/~clday/", however any other useful sites would be appreciated.
My GGGrandfather served with the UK 52nd Regt of Foot in India from possibly 1851 onwards, however his wife seems to have re-married in 1855 - I presume therefore that he died somewhere between 1851 and 1855 over there.
Are there any known look-ups for this type of information?
Regards,
Bob Australia

Hi Bob,
the http://www.fibis.org/ site above also has some military records, have you looked there yet ?
Check any other posts on this board that mention India, there may be a useful link in there.
Another avenue to explore is the Military Route - try the archives of the regiment he served in, if necessary put in a request on the "Armed Forces" board, we have some experts there, too.
Hope this helps, Bob

Thanks Bob.
I have tried the http://www.fibis.org/ and 52nd Regt sites - no luck I'm afraid, but thanks for the "Armed Forces" board suggestion. I'll post something up shortly.
Regards,
Bob L

Sandie,
Thanks. Instantly a new piece of information from the free trial area. It appears William had a daughter born in 1853 in Dublin. Nothing new from India yet, but this is another piece of the puzzle none-the-less.
Regards,
Bob
