I must have had my eyes crossed  the JENNINGs I saw were in Whitchurch, but Shropshire & Devon, must have left Hampshire out of the search.
Looking again, I can see a William Jennings born 1843 Thatcham, Berkshire living as a boarder in Freefolk Manor, which is in the registration district of Whitchurch, would you like these details?

I can see this family in 1871 in Overton, which is near Whitchurch,

I can see five JENNINGs families in 1881 Whitchurch, but only one in Hampshire, the others are in Shropshire, are they mistranscribed? or are they living in the surrounding area?
The one I can see looks like the 1871 William with a wife Fanney, and the above JENNINGs are still in Overton.
Who is the early Thatcham Jennings? and which one is your GGGrandfather? It's hard to connect them without knowing their names

Unless I am mistaken this landlord or his wife was murdered by a Thomas Jennings. I came across this lately.
Once again, new places of birth in other counties. I have to keep everything in mind as I've followed this family the length and breadth of the UK.
My 2 x gr grandfather is John Jennings b 1818 in Wiltshire. From 1853 he's out of the way in Scotland, all accounted for.
What I'm doing is trying to find connecting family, brothers, sisters. I've found one sister in Kimpton Susannah, married name Matthews. There are a number of travelling Jennings that possibly are related to mine, moving between Devizes, Chute. Whitchurch, Andover, Newbury (Thatcham).
If one follows an old map from the 1800's one can see how they moved and the places of birth of the children provide the trail.
I don't want to waste you time, especially if you see not Wiltshire or Thatcham links amoungst the older Jennings in Hampshire.
All my Jennings were ingenious business men whether it be hawkings or running bus companies. What has come as a big surprise is that many are travelling hawkers in Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire. Some census entries give Agricultural workers, next hawker.
There is this death in Whitchurch of Mary Jennings in 1879, aged 79. In 1871 she would be alive but where and is there a husband?
All the Jennings seem to connect in Whitchurch/Andover whether from Wiltshire or Berkshire.
I really appreciate what you've posted as it's all relevant and fits into a pattern and style of life. They were constantly moving back and forth. It confused me for a long time but I finding patterns.
Many thanks, any names in this area of Hampshire, will help me in my research of this family.

Hi Art,
I looked at the death of Mary JENNINGS age 79 in 1879 Whitchurch because I couldn't find her anywhere in Hampshire.
The ref and place given on Ancestry and FreeBMD is
Whitchurch, H v.2e p.637
I've looked at the scans and the image shows Whitchurch, S v.6a p.637
6a is the ref. for Whitchurch Shropshire, 2c would be the ref. for Whitchurch, Hampshire
There is a Mary JENNINGS b.1800 living in Whitchurch Shropshire in 1871 with husband Thomas, both born Hanmer, Flintshire
Maybe that helps remove one from your search
