1841 census request please - Portsea
« on: Friday 17 March 06 18:07 GMT (UK) »

Hi all,

I started a thread asking for help re: my ggg grandfather George Thomas Wainwright.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,139394.0.html

The problem is that this has raised more questions than answers.  The gist of the thread is this:

My ggg grandfather - George Thomas Wainwright - was born to a Matilda Wainwright nee Wheelwright and a George Wainwright shoemaker, St Mary's, Portsea, Hampshire. (Address Military Row).

The problem is that we now think that he was born out of wedlock and his mother re-married twice after that.

My question is:

Does anyone have access to either the 1841 Hampshire census or local directories etc from that time?  I would like to find out if George Snr ever actually existed or as per the previous thread, he turned into John Dollery Undecided.

Many thanks

Anna Smiley

PS. for those of you confused please read the above thread - thanks
