Hitchin Parish Records - KNIGHT/WHITBY

Hi All,

I have a marriage of Esther Whitby and Benjamin Knight at St Mary, Hitchin in 1813 - but can not find either birth on IGI - can anyone help?

What I have found is the family of Henry Whitby and Hannah with 6 children all born from 1790-1804 - but it does not include Esther ( could Esther be any other name?)

As these are my direct line and are 3 x Great grandparents any help is even more appreciated than usual!!

Hi Keith

According to the LDS Hester and Esther are interchangeable & Hester isn't too far away from Hanna - who was born 1795 - so just possible for your marriage.
Were they still living 1841 or preferably 1851 to check the census?

That particular film looks to have interesting contents if you have a spare week or 2 to spend at a  LDS Family History centre

Hi Trish,

I have Esther's  census record for '41,51,61 (just realised not '71!!) - and also death in 1872, all in Hitchin

Her ages are similar to being born c 1792/3 in Hitchin.

I had not thought that Hannah and Esther could be the same person - maybe...

I must get along to Telford LDS centre this winter (now bowls has finished!!) - a bit daunted by never having been to one of their centres - although I think you have told me they are helpful (even to doddering old fools??)

Just relised that was not your question - off to check Henry and Hannah's census record!!
See told you I was getting old! Grin Grin

Still searching for this - I have found a marriage for both Hannah Whitby and Sarah Whitby in Hitchin - so that rules out any name change for my Esther!! Roll Eyes
