Wood-Ranger at ?????
« on: Monday 29 May 06 13:07 UTC (UK) »

I have a marriage certificate and under Profession, Michacl Monaghan is a Wood-Ranger at Kings, (Iam having trouble with this next word looks like) Dueenls or Queens  County Ireland,is there such a place
Would he have been a Wood Ranger in this part of Ireland?
Would he be working on an estate or the Government.
Am I on the right site for this topic?.  Belle.  Sad

Hi, could it possibly be 'Queens County', now Laois, as Offaly was 'Kings County'?  Is it possible to scan in the extract and post it here to see if anyone can help.
Good luck

Hiya Belle,

I'd imagine that Michael worked on an estate.

There were quite a number of landowners in King's County with large estates.

Hi Chris, Thanks for that, had alook at the site but noticed it is connected to Ancestry not sure how this can help me.
The reason I asked about the occupation of Micheal Monaghan was to pin point the birth place of his son James Monaghan,as on James's Army Records of 1854 he was born in the Parish of Barnaback, near the Town of Mullingar,in the County of Kings. Now I know none of this makes sense,as Mullingar is in Westmeath, and nobody has heard of Barnaback.
Tracing people in Ireland is bad enough without this type of complications,so you see my problem. Belle.  Huh

Just a thought Chris
I did a posting in Ireland-General, SUBJECT: Where is this place??.
Which has the Army Doc posted, you may have seen it.
It seems James was a bit confused to where he came from, according to his army records he had a 2nd class certificate of education,so he could read and write. Belle.

Belle,

I have a John Monaghan on Griffiths Valuation living in a townland called Curraghbrack in the parish of Rathconnell, Co. Westmeath.

What do you think?

Hi RonnieG,
sorry for the delay in replying, I have very little info on my Monaghans in Ireland,There may well be a connection with John Monaghan, depending on how many Monaghans lived in that area at that time.
What year was Griffiths Valuation taken?,and do you know if  the Parish of Rathconnell is any where near Mullingar?.
I am looking for James Monaghan born 1836-8 (ggg-grandfather) his father:Micheal, mother:Huh.
I know what happend to him after he left Ireland 1850s,but not before.
Belle.
