James Inglis Mason Irving

My Grandfather James Inglis Mason Irving (called Mason) born 1896 Where?  I suspect Dumfries.  His father was called John.  No record of full name registered in Scotlands General Registry so I think maybe his was just registered James or Mason.  Probably his christening gave his full name.  I at my whit's end trying to find something out.  Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

On  http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  there is a Mason Irvine born 1896 in Langholm, Dumfries
