Can anyone help me to find a Thomas Paul (L) born in Southwark c 1842
I have him at 12 Aldred St Bermondsey with young family in 1871(spelt Pall) and all censuses after that, but can anyone help me with the 1861 or 51 or his birth.
He married Esther Banks, at St Mary Magdalen Bermondsey 5.3.1864. At the time says he was 21 and a leather dyer.Father also Thomas a bricklayer.Doesn't say deceased-but still could be
Despite many attempts at trawling through the BMD indexes have never found a birth c 1842 that fits.
I have been stuck at this brickwall for ages- please help
Carol

Hi Rick
Sorry to take so long getting back to you. Thanks for the look ups.We have discovered a possible 7 year old Thomas Paull in 1851 as a visitor at 3 Clarendon Street Southwark or Bermondsey(not sure which) on 1563/260.He is there with someone named Coleman I am told.Funny thing is that when he eventually married Esther Banks in 1864 it said her name was Banks, formerly Coleman odd huh? As we can't find a previous marriage for her and mum doesn't seem to have been Coleman. Odder and odder
The 1843 birth you gave does not seem correct as the father is Charles. This is a real mystery-was he adopted and not born Paul, did someone make an error in putting father Thomas Paull on his marriage cert.
More brick walls, slowly ..........VERY slowly being knocked down.

Yes thanks for this Rick- but as you say not going to get me much further is it? Why should a 7 year old go visiting on census night,he must have known the family quite well.Where's his mum. I'm pinning my hopes on tying the younger Ann up with a possible sister or half sister called Esther.
Isn't this called 'clutching at straws time'
