Thomas Ryan KAVANAGH - Co. Wicklow
« on: Friday 22 October 04 20:49 UTC (UK) »

Is anybody out there researching Kavanaghs in County Wicklow?

My GG Grandfather was Thomas Ryan Kavanagh born circa 1861.

The only additional info I have on him is the name and occupation of his father (from Thomas's wedding certificate in 1888), which is Peter Kavanagh, Coachman.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?  I have Kavanaghs in my tree but not the two names you mention - are they the only two you know?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Thanks for the response. That's pretty much all I have on them, I'm afraid.

I know more about Thomas later on, when he came to England but it's the link to his parents I'm after.

Regards,

Mark.

Have you any idea as to what part of Wicklow the family came from.... would happily have a nose around for you ... especially since I live in the county Cheesy

Best wishes

Audrey,

Many thanks for your efforts.

Mo,

After reading Audrey's response, the part of Wicklow might be Ashford??  Grin

If I could get a definite son, Thomas, and maybe a confirmation Peter's occupation, coachman, I would be delighted.

Thomas eventually moved to London to join the Scots Guards and was married in Windsor. Later, he moved to Merseyside to work in the shipyard. He and his wife had a son, James Ryan Kavanagh (my grandfather).

I did drive to Wicklow once during one of my many stays in Dublin. I didn't do any research there but at least I got to see the place.

ANY help would be really appreciated.

Thanks again to you both.

Well Ashford is only down the road.... and I happen to know the local curate... so will head down there and ask if I can check out the registers, if I find Thomas I will get a copy of the entry and will let you know... if not there, then would take a bit longer...

It would require trawling through the microfiche in the National Library and I don't get there very often...

will be in touch...

Mo,

Thanks again. I hope you can send some "Luck of the Irish" my way.  Wink

I only knew Thomas was born in "Co. Wicklow" from information provided by the Scots Guards. There were no addresses or further details though.

Kind regards,

Mark.
