As of 1st June 2006, I have discontinued my Calderdale Companion website.
The number of hits has declined over the past few week, and the feedback - which went a long way to motivate me into keeping the website going - has also gone down.
Regards, and thanks to those who did respond and/or contribute to the material on the site.

I'm afraid that of all the emails and messages that I have received saying how much they have used my Calderdale Companion site and how much they will miss it, only a very small percentage have ever actually given something back. Those who did use the website obviously had an interest in the Calderdale district, but very few bothered to take the time and trouble to correct a birthdate here, add an interesting fact there.
I shall miss it too. Websites such as yours are treasures. Full of local information that those of us not living in the area could not access otherwise. We never appreciate these things enough - until it's too late.
I think family history is going through a quieter patch at the moment, following the releases of the 1851 and 1841 census and the TV programmes that were broadcast earlier this year.
