And not just Bath
See topic: UK-BMD Updates - Newsletter / ....
A short summary of what has been appearing in the UKBMD newsletter lately: "... As with all the previous Wiltshire birth data, these records include the mother's maiden name for all instances where it appears on the register.... " Wiltshire BMD This is part of a re-vamp of the UKBMD standard software. Where this data is available, the mother's maiden name is being added to the records. here's an example of how it looks: Wiltshire Birth indexes for the years: 1837 Surname / Forename(s) / Sub-District / Registers At / Mother's Maiden Name / Reference SMITH / Daniel / Christian Malford / Chippenham / FREGARD / CM/1/4 CAVEAT EMPTOR: - Not all records have this info. - not all UKBMD sites use the standard software (check the "Local BMD" link at http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/ ) - not all sites have been upgraded. and, generally, - all sites are "on-going", not every record has been transcribedSo have a look, be happy if you find anything, but don't get too disappointed if you don't find anything Check the original posting to see the logo of the "standard" software

Thanks Ann !
here's the "official" anouncement, from the UK-BMD newsletter
BathBMD has now published 125,661 deaths. This is the first batch of deaths and completes us to 1895 in this area. All entries have the 'Age at Death' where this is included in the register. Many thanks go to all volunteers who helped prepare data for this update. BathBMD is available at www.BathBMD.org.uk John Fairlie

Dear all, Happy New Year to you all ! Hope you had a good festive season.
The Bath BMD site has had its births search form updated with a new field to allow you to enter a mother's maiden name as an optional search parameter.
As an example of how it works, try this births search on the Bath BMD site:
Date Ranges: 1837-1850 Surname: SMITH Mother's Maiden Name: ASHLEY Match: Soundex
As the new text on the form states, it will also return entries where no mother's maiden name has been indexed. This will have more relevance when this update to the software has been installed on the Lancashire and Yorkshire sites where less of the births have the mother's maiden name indexed.
If everyone is happy with this, I'll then install the updated software on the other sites that have some mother's maiden name data.
