Secure GEDCOM Data?

For those worried about commercial genealogy companies acquiring their data via GEDCOM files there is apparently a built-in security feature called the _UID.
If you are using an old version of genealogy software though it is not available and if you are using a newer version of software not all GEDCOM readers support it.  It looks like the LDS invented it with their PAF software but they do not necessarily use their own concept and strip out unique identifiers and replace them with their own.  Other software venders might just ignore them.  Every record record within a GEDCOM file has a strange looking record like this:

1 _UID 7C24F6617EBEDA4284E1C4D9F5F7A8C5AA0F.

At least there has been some attempt to try and make everyones submissions unique and identifiable.
