Inspired by the London Underground

Hi

Harry Beck's 1933 design for the London Underground is recognised as being a model of simplicity and ease of use.

I wonder if there are any lessons from Beck's work that genealogists could put to use in laying out their own family tree - of has design of trees already reached its apotheosis?

This one has lain unanswered for far too long ....  Grin

Becks design for the map of the london underground is a masterful piece of design work but is it practical  and is what we see today true to the original ideas and designs. Beck certainly didn't think so as he worked for years on replacements which were rejected by London Transport - The same people who now fall over themselves to canonise Beck ignored the man and his works while he lived.

As to using his ideas in genealogical terms ... many computer generated trees already emply similar principles.

His ideas have been used by almost every large city to show their own transport "web" or "spider"
