I have just found a newspaper death listing for the following person -
Thursday, January 17, 1833 Died, on Tuesday last the 15th instant, Mr. WALTER BICKHAM, a native of Ashburton, Devon, an old respectable inhabitant of this Town, aged 65 years. His funeral will take place tomorrow, from his residence near Messrs. Newman & Co. http://ngb.chebucto.org/Newspaper-Obits/nflder-1831-34.shtml The Newfoundlander 1831 to 1834. Miscellaneous News Articles
Since Walter is a family name in my Bickham family, and Ashburton Devon IS where the family came from, I'd like to know if he was related to my family.
Can anyone possibly help me in finding out more details about this Walter? Like when did he arrive in Canada? Was he married, if so to whom and when? And did he have any children?
His age at death gives a YOB around 1768. There's nothing in the IGI for the name/date.
Any suggestions as to where to look would be helpful too. I live in Toronto, and hope to get to the Reference Library next week.
Thanks Burrow Digger

Might want to contact the 3 here who say they are from NFLD. One might be a descendant or distant relative of your Walter http://www.bickham.org/email.htm
The Bickhams on the I.G.I. may still be parents....the newspaper article mentions no wife or family...but it may have been a first notice type of entry.
You were on the right site for BMD NFLD. but if there was more information... a web search of bickham should have brought it up...
But here is proof that there weren't that many Bickhams in Canada...as if you search the 1881...the was only a William (under Wm,.) Bickham born Nfld...and found in Toronto, by the way!! There are tons of other spellings ( likely phonetics of the accent) such as Biccum, bickum) but his is the only one spelled correctly, anyway... interesting to note so thought it might interest you, also... all the best with your research, J.J.

I did some searches through the whole NGB site and found a number of other Bickham's but no other mention of Walter Bickham. These others could his children and grandchildren or they might not.
I'll email those 3 names and see if I make any further progress. Thanks.
