Liverpool to US
« on: Saturday 23 October 04 13:14 BST (UK) »

It it possible for someone to  looksee if there was an Edgar Pomeroy  and Campbell Pomeroy and possibly their mother Elizabeth on a ship some time after Sept 1888 when a passport was applied for??
They lived in Liverpool and in 1888 were aged 21 , 18 and mother about 45 or so.
Campbell turned up in Virginia and Edgar in California shortly after 1888.

The possibilty exists that Edgar went first and Campbell went later and of course mother may have remarried. Father died when Campbell was a year old.

Hi
I did not find either Edgar or Campbell on passenger lists.

However, I did find the following information which may help (or not.) Smiley

In 1910, Edgar was living in California, Alameda County, Oakland with his wife Mattie, and son Gordon.  It states he arrived in the USA in 1886, and is Naturalized.

In 1920, he is living in San Francisco, widowed, son Gordon not on the census with him, and states that he arrived in the USA in 1888, and was Naturalized in 1899.

In 1920, Campbell is also living in California, Santa Clara County (close by), and Gordon, nephew, right age, is there with his family.  It states that Campbell came to the USA in 1888 and is NOT naturalized.

It is likely that you will be able to obtain Edgar's naturalization paperwork, or at least his Declaration of Intent from:

Alameda County Clerk
1106 Madison Street, Room 136
Oakland, California 94607
USA

If you choose to write, I would suggest that you say it is for genealogical purposes only, as the privacy laws are rather strict.

If you need more specific information from any of the above census, I'll be happy to post it.

Regards,
Valerie

Thanks. I knew most of that but the naturalisation bit  is useful!
