George Morison
« on: Wednesday 07 June 06 04:55 UTC (UK) »

I am seeking information on George Morison (born about 1832 in Burntisland, Fife) son of Alexander Morison and Helen Garnoch.  In the 1841 census he lived with his parents and brothers in Queensferry, West Lothian.

George became a pharmacist and lived in Peebles.  I would much appreciate any information about him and his family.

many thanks, marp

Hello Joe,

Thank you so much for the information from the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census.  I did not have this information about the Morison family and it fills in many gaps.  I was aware of the fact that George Morison became a chemist/druggist in Peebles, but did not quite know how he got there from Burntisland.

Thanks again,

Has anyone got access to the 1871 census for Peebles?
I have been given some great information so far on George Morison(born 1832 Burntisland).

I would appreciate it if there is any more information out there on George - what he was doing in the 1871 census, marriage date and the like.

here's hoping...

Thanks again Gadget.   Yes George Morison was the son of Alexander Morison and Helen Garnoch.   John Morison the minister at Auchtermuchty was another brother.

There were six brothers.
George who went to Peeebles,
James who emigrated to Melbourne, Australia
Alexander who in 1851 was an apprentice draper
Henry who emigrated to New Zealand
Andrew who became a seaman and who was lost in 1866 on the famous wreck the "General Grant" off the coast of New Zealand
John who became a minister at Auchtermuchty

I am trying to tie up the loose ends of the Morison family!

This has been really helpful.  Thanks again

Thanks to everyone for your help so far.   Is it possible for someone to look up the 1881 and 1891 census data for Peebles to check whether or not George Morison was still alive - whether he had children?

Any information would be appreciated.

thanks, marp

Caroline, thanks for the information.   I take it that the last posting refers to the deaths of George Morison and his wife?  I was a bit unsure as to what the 5 credits and the reference numbers were about.

If you see any monument inscriptions or anything of interest in the graveyard I would be really delighted to hear from you.

many thanks,  marp

Hi,  I thought they might be from the  www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  database.  Yes, I have registered with them and will go and have a  search.   I know who George Morison's parents are.  I am tying up the loose ends of the Morison family originally from Burntisland, Fife.
Thanks for all your help, marp
