How about checking out on your profile what posts you get notified for and untick the ones you don't want to be notified about anymore.
Or at the top of this post is a button that says notify. if you click on that I think it will ask you if you do not/do want to be notified about the current post.
Hope I make sense. I may have just confused myself here.

If you click 'notify' it asks if you wished to be notified of replies. I didnt click it, as I've only just on this thread, found out what it was for !
There isn't an option of NOT being notified of replies !!

If you click Notify after you have posted on a topic it will ask you
"Are you sure you wish to disable notification of new replies for this topic"
Hope this helps

No. Once you've answered a particular thread, any answers will keep popping up on your 'new replies'. The only way to get rid of them is to delete, which you usually can't.
I still have 'How did you first find Rootschat' after nearly 3 years and '4 great grandparents' and lots of look ups that I've done when a possible relative comes on and the thread moves on to other things
I now tend to click on 'unread posts' rather than 'new replies' and only look at the ones that I'm interested in.

PS - the notify refers to e-mail notification not to the online info.

No. Once you've answered a particular thread, any answers will keep popping up on your 'new replies'. Tell me about it! I still keep getting notifications of replies from postings I replied to ages ago. I'm only replying to this posting because I replied to it some time ago, and it keeps coming up my notifications.
I have since learnt, that one should not reply to postings unless they relate to you, or you can help somebody out. If you can help somebody out, and you don't want to want notifications, send that person a PM - some people have done that with my postings.
Never reply to a thread that has a lot of previous replies. For example, I replied to "What music are you listening to now". It was a new topic with just a few replies, so I replied to it. This topic went into the 100's, and I was notified every time somebody else replied. Thankfully, that topic was "locked" by the person who first posted it, and I was saved from any more notifications.
In saying that, I have received reply notifications to old postings which have been months old, and have learnt something from it, so I was glad to be notified.
Guess one has to take the "good with the bad"
Les

Hello all
In order to be a bit contructive, we do try to keep Off-Topic threads to 20 pages (yes, I know - 20 is a lot of pages!)
We also try to keep other threads short, and encourage those who start the threads to lock and start afresh if they get too long. (Please add a link, if you choose to do this, in order that we can keep track!)
Sorry there's not much else we can do - the only consolation is that the Mods get this just the same as everyone else, lol!
Kind regards, Arranroots

Hi Flight Engineer
Little Nell is one of our team of volunteer Moderators. I'm not sure what she removed, whether it was a post you started or just one that you've contributed to but I'll try to find out and will let you know by Personal Message.
You might need to reply to this in order to get the Pm system working, please!
Kind regards, Arranroots

Yes, there was a duplicate post, so I removed one. No difference between the two so rather than people get confused or them posting answers on two separate threads (and potentially leading to duplication of effort) I removed one.
Sorry to have confused you
Nell

Jenty- you have to make a few posts before you can send PMs (personal messages). If you go to Tom's post and see a green scroll under his name on the left side of the post click on it. Then write your message in the box and click send. Email addresses should not be posted online. I notice that you've already tried to contact Tom in Feb.2008 (perhaps he's been busy or unable to reply for some reason) so after you send your PM it's a matter of waiting.

Hi Jenty,
Some information which might help you and your cousin Tom.
1. See Tom's post at: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,285354.msg1687059.html#msg1687059
It is dated 13 Feb 2008 and reads:
Hello there,
I believe this lady to be my cousin, who was nicknamed "Jenty" by members of her family. I have sent her a response giving some private details and she would instantly recognise me, even though I'm referred to as tommacgregor on Rootschat.
Kind Regards,
Tom. However, that thread is locked which means, unfortunately, that you can't post on it.
2. As aghadowey say, you need to have made a certain number of posts before you can send PMs to another RootsChatter. I think it's three. But I think you can receive PMs which have been sent to you regardless of the number of posts you've made.
Anyway, try it.
For personal messages see top right of any RootsChat page.
And to increase your message count it doesn't matter what you write in your post - even if you just post to say thanks or to say that you are posting in order to increase your message count so that you can send someone a PM
Hope this helps,
JAP PS: I've edited this post. I've checked through other threads on this board and it seems that a) if a person has posted 2 or fewer posts, they can receive PMs but only up to a maximum of 20 http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,25856.0.html and b) 3 is the number of posts needed before a new member can send a PM. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,327529.msg2079766.html#msg2079766
