The original photo would have been about 1880 and the glare may have been incorporated into the copy of a copy that I got hold of but neither original nor any copies are available , just the jpg copy I managed to snatch before returning the copy of a copy to its owner who didn't want to let it out of her sight. At the time of the photo the lady's hair would have been white.

Never thought of her having a hat on but could well be. But what sort of hat would have been worn then, especially for a posed photo? And in that case the indication is that she had grey hair.

It looked like a bonnet type hat to me you can see the straight line of it on the right of her head.

Here is a photo of her mother at about the same time, bonnet and all; and her aunt wore a nearly identical one in black

Looking better and better. Your bonnett seems to fit better with what little can be seen of the original. Did they really wear such bonnets then?
