Mary,
So you have Robert Broderick on C1851, as a 10 yr old living on Sandy Island, Seaton Sluice. I notice he is recorded as born 'Earsdon', but he was probably born Seaton Sluice, with Earsdon as the 'parish' of his birth, which of course covered a wide area.
And just nearbye at Seaton Lodge, was widow Elizabeth Broderick, 69 yrs, sailor's wife, living by herself.
But I note that your 'holy grail' is the Registration of Robert's birth and his marriage.... !
Do you have his church baptism ?

Mary,
Just getting ready for week end in Manchester... Sunderland are playing Millwall in FA Cup semi-final...
But in the meantime.... although I have a good hunch he was born in Seaton Sluice... as C1881 says. Whereas the reference to Earsdon is not a 'birthplace' but the 'ancient parish whose boundaries he was born in.
And Earsdon parish covered a big area, including Seaton Sluice, Old Hartley, New Hartley, Seaton Delaval, Seghill, Buuradon, Holywell etc...
My g/father was born in New Hartley.. but census records show him as b. Earsdon, birth registration records show Tynemouth .
I was born in Bebside Colliery village, but officials would have put me down as 'born Horton' which was our equivalent 'ancient parish'
Other examples are Wallsend-born people put down as 'born Longbenton.
And down in Co Durham , Seaham Harbour counted as ' Dalton-le-Dale..... stop me !!!!
Anyway, that's my hunch for your Robert.
But one thing I am sure of.... C1851 has he and his family as living in 'Sandy Island' and not Seaton Delaval !!
Sandy Island ( isn't an island) is the bit of land on the north bank ( Blyth side ) of the river/stream/burn Seaton. Near where the pub the Melton Constable is/was.
To read background/see maps/see photos of this area go to communities.northumberland.gov.ukno'www' required.
Enter site, click on 'Seaton Sluice' and browse at leisure.
Another angle with your gang... that 69 yr old Elizabeth Broderick, widow of a sailor, on C1851... I think she is a contender 10 yr old Robert's grannie !
Next time I visit Northumberland County Records Office at Morpeth, I shall look up Earsdon parish records, for Robert's birth etc... was the family Church of England ?
Good Hunting Michael @ Cowpen

in the same era there was a couple, Robert and Margaret Brotherick also baptising chilren in the parish.
In the 1813-1837 period there were 3 B marriages..
John Brotherick married Mary Milburn on 26/3/1827.
John Hay Broderick married Jane Blakeman on 15/9/1833.
Mary Brotherick married George Smith on 20/7/1839
And 5 Brotherick burials and one Broderic..
Edward Brotherick, b.9/2/1820 aged 90 at Seaton Sluice.
Robert Brotherick, bu. 15/11/1821, 96 at Hartley.

Mary, Thanks, but the challaenge is my reward..
Pendantic Michael would respond to you including 'Seaton Delaval' for Edward/Margaret's 'address' on Census 1851, by saying that if ever you wanted to see were they lived, you would not go near Seaton Delaval.
When you ask 'Where is Robert ? '... What do yopu mean ?.. He is there with his family, on the census page, aged 10, 4th memer of the family.
Michael( mail me direct if you want )

I have just come across your query. I have Robert Brotherick married Elizabeth Turnbull 22.3.1806 at Tynemouth. Trying to trace the children born after the marriage until those baptised 1819. These are not at Earsdon or adjacent parishes. I rather suspect non Anglican entries - there are a lot of Chapels in the area!
Have you carried out any further research since your initial entry. I plan to check for 1806 Banns when I go to RO next. I will share any information if you wish. Ann
